About Parliament 

The Parliament of Rwanda is bicameral. 
It consists of two chambers:

-   The Senate 
- The Chamber of Deputies 

After the transitional period (1994-2003) ,the first legislature of the Chamber of Deputies commenced  in 2003 to 2008 ,the Second legislature commenced  in 2008 to 2013 . 

The first legislature of the Senate commenced  in 2003 and ended  in 2011.

The second  legislature of the Senate commenced in 2011  and will end  in 2019.

Sudan MPs hold discussions with the Presiding Officers of both Houses of Rwanda Parliament.

Friday, 11/5/2012, at defferent times, the Senate President Dr. NTAWUKULIRYAYO Jean Damascène and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, MUKANTABANA Rose, held discussions with Sudanese MPs which focussed on the war between Sudan and South Sudan.

Media Bills tabled before the Senate

The Senate Plenary Assembly met on 10/05/2012 and among other businesses it adopted the relevance of three media-related bills: 1. Media Bill; 2. Access to Information Bill; 3. Media High Council Bill (MHC)

Whistleblowers Protection Bill tabled before the Senate

Thursday 10-5-2012, the Senate Plenary Assembly adopted the relevance of the Bill relating to the protection of whistleblowers.

Kigali hosts 7th Meeting of EAC Speakers of National Assemblies/Parliaments and EALA

EAC Speakers believe streamlining communication environment should spur regional development and may as well help them discharging their common mandate. This was one of statements of facts made during their 7th Meeting held in the Rwanda Parliamentary buildings on Monday, May 07, 2012.

Senate President joins Rubavu Residents in commemorating 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

The ceremony to mark the 18th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi which took place in Gisenyi Sector, Rubavu District was kicked off by a walk to remember departing from the former Rubavu Bus Station to the Genocide Memorial Site located at a place known as “commune rouge”. Current and former residents of Gisenyi Town turned out for the walk. All the speakers during the subsequent part of the ceremony held at the same place, criticised people who had opposed the project for construction of the Memorial at that very site which embodies a lot of history marks.

Senator MAKUZA urges Ngororero residents to keep up their dynamism towards Umuganda activities

On 28 April 2012 a team of 13 Senators accompanied by the Senate’s support staff joined residents of Kabaya Sector of Ngororero District in a monthly community work known as Umuganda. During the activity, the Senate Vice President Hon. MAKUZA Bernard commended Kabaya residents for their massive participation in the activity and encouraged them to keep up the same pace.
